Question: Why is Carrboro Parks Project supporting the creation of a greenspace and walking trail on the Pathway Drive parcels?

Answer: In 1999, the Carrboro Board of Aldermen (now Town Council) proposed to sell the Pathway Drive parcels to help fund the purchase of the land for the proposed Martin Luther King Jr. Park. This proposal made Laurie Weakly and Susan Stone aware of the need in Carrboro for a "friends of parks" group. They formed Carrboro Parks Project in response to that need. The purpose of Carrboro Parks Project is to preserve, enhance and expand open space, greenways, parks, recreational and cultural facilities and opportunities that enhance the quality of life in Carrboro. Supporting the creation of a greenspace and walking trail is consistent with our purpose. The Pathway Drive parcels are part of our history.
