To improve the quality of life in Carrboro, NC through the protection and improvement of parks and recreational facilities, including greenways and greenspace.

In late 1999, the Board of Aldermen held a public hearing to discuss buying land on Hillsbough Road for a neighborhood park. The biggest question was how to fund the purchase and development of this property. The Board commissioned an Ad Hoc Citizens Committee for Small Park Funding. This group discussed various ways to pay for the property and the development of a non-profit "friends of the parks" group. This led to the incorporation of the Carrboro Parks Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit in September, 2001.
